Since March 2026, the seven organisations involved in Tratu on+ have been working together to define the framework, objectives and methodology of this European project. We are now presenting the initiative publicly and entering a new phase focused on developing and implementing its main areas of work.
We will gradually add information to this website about the pilot lab experiences, awareness-raising content, training materials, practical resources and the results generated throughout the project, which will run until December 2027.
This website will also serve as an open space for organisations, institutions, professionals and communities interested in fostering a shared culture of safeguading and respect for the rights of children and adolescents.
From a shared framework to practical experimentation
This new phase will take us from the initial design and coordination work to the practical implementation of the project’s methodologies.
Over the coming months, we will begin activating five pilot labs in the Basque Country —Lezo and Portugalete—, Catalonia —Sant Boi de Llobregat and Sabadell— and the Balearic Islands —Ciutadella—.
The labs will allow us to work in different social and territorial contexts, test and adapt methodologies, assess their results and draw lessons from the process. Based on this work, we will produce tools and proposals that can be used by other organisations, professionals, institutions and territories.
Our work will be structured around three cross-cutting areas:
- A community-based approach.
- The active participation of children and adolescents.
- Emotional well-being.
Turning safeguarding into a shared practice
Tratu on+ is based on a simple idea: protecting children and adolescents is a collective responsibility.
As a society, we have made progress in identifying violence, abuse and neglect and in activating protection mechanisms when something goes wrong. However, we still need to define and share a clearer understanding of what it means to treat children and adolescents well in their everyday lives.
Through this project, we want to help ensure that safeguarding does not depend solely on the individual commitment of particular people or on isolated initiatives, but becomes embedded in the way organisations, institutions and communities operate in a structured and sustainable manner.
To achieve this, we will promote training and shared learning activities, practical evidence-based resources and proposals that help translate public policies and regulatory frameworks into the everyday spaces where children and adolescents grow, interact and participate.

Tratu on+ brings together the knowledge and experience of EDE Fundazioa, Bidegintza, Fundació Pere Tarrés, Fundació Sant Joan de Déu, Esade, the Basque Government and Linking Ideas.
The project has a total budget of €742,000 and will run until December 2027. At the end of this journey, we will present the results and lessons learned, with the aim of helping other organisations strengthen their capacities and make progress towards creating safe, participatory and protective environments.
